The Last Princess is a fast-paced Steampunk short story about a war going desperately wrong.
I wrote the German version of this tale a few years ago, for an anthology about pirates edited by a friend. In fact, I felt very honored to be asked to contribute to it, and writing the story was great fun. Aline is tough, smart and determined.
The anthology “Piratengeflüster” was published in 2022 by Karin Braun and Gabriele Haefs (in German).
A few weeks go, I remembered the story, and for reasons known only to my Autistic brain, I sat down to translate it into English.
It took five hours, and then I was done. The story ended up having about 5800 words – definitely a short story. I made the cover on the same day, and published it a week later.
For now, I invite you to give it try.
A superb airship. A competent Princess. A desperate battle.
When her airship is ordered to join the desperate, final battle above Wilhelmsburg, the capital of the old Empire, steerswoman Princess Aline realizes that she might lose everything she holds dear.
The death of Captain Franzon on the eve of the biggest battle of them all, catapults Aline into commanding the Falcon. Going through his documents, she discovers her uncle’s brazen plan, shocking in its scope. What’s more, the Falcon carries the legacy of the Empire as well as its best Artisans, the masters of elusive magic.
Can Aline’s keen senses, assets and teamwork save the Empire?
Find out in this fast-paced Steampunk short story, with exciting air battles, clever magic and a loyal crew.
